Role: Regional Programme Director – Basic Specialist Training – Galway Hub

Department: Postgraduate Training and Education
Tenure of Office: 3 years and maximum of two concurrent terms
Remuneration/Benefits: Payment of RPDs takes place monthly and in accordance with the number of trainees within their given speciality
Location: Galway

Institute of Medicine 
  

The Institute of Medicine(IOM)is established by the RCPI to oversee the governance and operation of matters related to education, training and professional affairs in the medicine specialties and its associated sub-specialties in Ireland. As part of this remit, the Institute of Medicine is responsible for the following: 
  • Promotion and advancement of the body of knowledge of medicine 
  • Education, training and assessment of trainees in medicine specialties 
  • Examinations in medicine 
  • Assessment of applications to the Specialist Division of the Register for medicine specialties 
  • Continuing Professional Development in medicine. 
  • Support the professional careers of Fellows, Members and Trainees in medicine specialties 
  • Act as an authoritative source of advice within the College in connection with medicine 

 Role Overview
The Regional Programme Director for Basic Specialist Training (BST) will work closely with Trainers, Training Leads, other Regional Programme Directors and the Associate Director of BST to oversee all matters pertaining to education and training in BST General Internal Medicine (GIM). 
 
This person will play a pivotal leadership role in the development and delivery of Basic Specialist Training, under the governance of the Education and Training Committee of the Institute of Medicine.
 
The Regional Programme Director should convene two meetings per year with the Training Leads in their Hub, and provide regular status reports to the Regional Programme Directors Committee and the Education and Training Committee meetings (through the Associate Director BST) as required
