Job Description
Role: Deputy Chief Examiner for the LFOM/MFOM Portfolio
Closing date: 27 February 2026 at 16:00

The Faculty are seeking an additional Deputy Chief Examiner for the LFOM/MFOM Portfolio and Viva Exams for a three-year term.
Introducing this additional role will help distribute workload more effectively, enhance the consistency and quality of our examinations, and allow for more focused development of assessment processes. The successful candidate will play a vital role in shaping examination standards and contributing to the continuous improvement of our assessment systems.
Key Responsibilities
  • Arranging for the marking of Portfolio cases (LFOM and MFOM Portfolios) and examining of the oral component of portfolios (LFOM and MFOM Viva) in advance of the examinations.  
  • Reviewing and selecting portfolio cases for candidates to be examined on for Viva exams. 
  • Attending results meeting, agreeing pass park and signing off on results (standard setting). 
  • Providing written feedback to unsuccessful Portfolio and Viva candidates. 
  • Reviewing incidents of possible misconduct. 
  • Maintaining security and confidentiality of all examination material, candidate information and examination results to which you have access to.  
  • Support ongoing development of LFOM and MFOM examinations. 
  • Reporting on the conduct and performance of the LFOM/MFOM Portfolio and Viva examinations to FOM Examinations Committee. 
  • Assisting the Chief Examiner in the appointment and training of examiners; development and oversight of training programmes.
  • Deputise as necessary for the Chief Examiner as Chair of the Faculty’s Examination Committee, which oversees the examination process and assist in its compilation, delivery and evaluation.
      
Requirements
The following conditions are in place for anyone who is interested to apply: 
  • Be experienced members in their specialty (normally being an Occupational Health Physician (OHP) /senior lecturer/or equivalent status). 
  • Be a Member or Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Health Medicine in Ireland, in good standing or a Fellow of an equivalent college. 
  • Be on a professional competence scheme. 
  • Be registered with their professional body where appropriate. 
  • Be active in practice in their specialty or subject area. 
  • Have an interest in education. 
  • Have some experience in teaching and examinations.
